Wilson MR.
Glaucoma in blacks: where do we go from here?
JAMA
1989;261(2):281-2.

The author of this editorial recounts the recent findings of racial differences in rates of glaucoma, and then argues, "recognition by the ophthalmic and general medical communities of race as a factor in glaucomatous damage is important but it is not enough. The issue now is why do blacks have a disproportionate risk of visual loss from glaucoma?" He urges readers to use these data to guide further epidemiologic explorations of the determinants of glaucoma risk in order to begin to address this problem.
