“A significantly greater risk of gastrointestinal complications was observed in black and non-White Hispanic patients than in Hispanic patients (p=0.01) even though there was no difference in the rate of developing urinary tract complications (p=1.0).”

“Our finding of a significantly lower risk for developing major gastrointestinal complications in Hispanic patients compared with black or non-Hispanic white patients was unexpected…. Although we could speculate about nutritional or genetic explanations, the reason for this difference and the validity of this finding are undetermined.”
